In this task students assume the role of a futurist, a person who studies the future in order to help people understand, anticipate, prepare for and gain advantage from coming changes. Students act as part of a team of futurists working for a company called Foresight Enterprises that has been contracted by a major energy, transportation, or technology company to help them develop a strategy for future expansion.
Success in future planning lies in careful research and understanding of past events. Students will provide historical information that will be incorporated into a Corporate Scenario Plan and Presentation. To do this successfully, students must examine two decades' (of their choice) worth of historical information and its impact on global economic changes in a field of their choice: energy, transportation, or technology.
