LDC Informational or Explanatory Rubric, Grades 9-12

This CCSS-aligned writing rubric can be used with any task that calls for students to develop a source-based explanation. It assesses students’ ability to establish and maintain a clear controlling idea; select and cite relevant evidence; develop ideas with sound reasoning and accurate explanation of source material; clearly connect ideas, concepts, and information; and use language and tone appropriate to a specific audience and purpose. It can be supplemented with rubrics that measure specific content understandings or disciplinary practices.
