In this task, students assume the role of a Political Party Research Officer. Their boss (a state Congresswoman) is on her way to a conference on a controversial current issue and the student is tasked with creating a playlist of relevant resources that she can listen to/watch on her ipod while flying to a conference on the topic. Resources need to provide her with a variety of viewpoints and be a variety of mediums, so as to prepare her for a range of conversations and interactions with multiple people and situations.
Students will prepare an ipod that contains a playlist of 4-5 resources, as well as a written description of each and the reasoning for their choices. Students should provide background on their selections, including a critical analysis of them as audio/video sources and why they are useful resources. Students will also provide the Congresswoman with an audio/video resource giving an overview of the topic and various viewpoints.
Note: This task is not accompanied by a rubric. We suggest teachers/schools select an appropriate rubric from this resource bank or your school/district materials.
